Участники знакомятся друг с другом на форуме конкурса, рассказывая о себе в интересной форме. 14-15 октября. Задание № 2 «Школьные годы чудесные». Участники составляют свое представление о том, что для него значит школа, делятся своими размышлениями на форуме конкурса. 16-17 октября. СCHESSTER: Dear Katya ! I wish you good luck in this contest. I took part in it last year and it was really great! It is interesting to learn something new about your region. Could you tell us about the place you live? Ilya

Ust-Pristan: It's very pleasant to see that you are interested to know more about our place! Ust-Pristan is located in the central part of Altai Krai. It is surrounded by many lakes and woods, which are the home for many different kinds of birds and animals. Here you can meet squirrels, hares, foxes, wolves; the main species of birds in the woods are heath-cock and wood-grouse. The rivers Ob and Charysh around Ust-Pristan, as well as numerous lakes of the region are rich with different kinds of fishes. People lived here even before Christ, but the settling of our time dates back to 1773.The first settlers were attracted by the high bank of the river Ob, rich vegetation, and good climate.Gradually a little village became a big populated settlement. In the beginning of the 20th century Ust-Pristan was famous for its fairs and factories which produced and sold many kinds of different goods, for example spare parts for agricultural machines, pottery, valenki, hardware (here was made a cannon which is now in the Central Museum of the Russian Army in Moscow) and all kinds of food: cheese, butter, honey, meat, flour and so on. Ust-Pristan has lived through different times, and we hope its best time is atill ahead...

СCHESSTER: Girls ! You story about UST-PRISTAN is very poetic, We see you are proud of your place-and it is great! Nowedays it is rare when people are proud of their place ( we think so) Everybody wants to go to Moscow and other big cities. We have never been to Altai Krai, thank you for your story. As we see your settlement is not very big, but how many schools are there in youe place? And how many pupils are there in your school? here was made a cannon which is now in the Central Museum of the Russian Army in Moscow We've never been to this museum, but after yor story we are going to propose our teacher to visity it in order to look at your cannon Ilya, Lena, Sasha and Nikita

Ust-Pristan: Dear CCHESSTER! You answered some of our questions before we asked them. Thanks. Our place at the beginning of the last century had about 20 thousand inhabitants. Now there are less people - about 7 thousand. And we have only one school here with about half a thousand students. SO...our school has to be THE BEST!!!

We are a group of two inseparable girlfriends. We have been friends since early childhood, and we are close like coffee and milk – these two substances are very common and popular, but together they can be even more tasty… 3. Катя Ихтонова: Well, I think, school really plays an important role in our life. You may like it or you may not but we spend so much time at school that it becomes our second home. School is not only a place of education; it is a place where we make friends and meet friends. At school we can enjoy different activities like arranging parties and concerts and show our talents. But the main thing is certainly education. Some pupils like school. They like studying because they are doing well in most subjects and they are going to continue their education after school, get higher education. But for those who are not successful in schooling and who are always pressed by their parents and teachers school becomes boring and not interesting. I don't understand such people. I like studying. It is so interesting to learn something new every day, even if sometimes you get bad marks and it spoils your mood very much...Perhaps it would be better to study without any marks, just for knowledge... What do you think about it?

Ust-Pristan: Dear canek! Thanks for your questions! Well, I like studying, because when you learn new things it helps you change to the better I think... I don't have very special talents... but I like dancing, I can sing, I can do things like knitting and sewing... Oh, breaks are like " a ray of light in the darkness", sometimes they can be even more important than lessons... During the breaks we prepare for the next lessons(very rarely), share the most important news(if we can't do it at the lesson),tell each other funny stories and watch how our classmates play jokes on each other

Ust-Pristan: Well, we certainly attend clubs, but... not at school... The fact is that in our village we have different kinds of schools- they are (becide our comprehensive school) a School of Arts and a Sports School. Becides, we can attend clubs at the House Of Children's Creative work (former House of Pioneers), and at our House of Culture. So everyone can find here some activity to his liking. I (Natasha) go to the club "Masteritsa" at the House of creative work, we learn there such things as sewing, knitting, embroidery and the like. My favourite activity here is knitting. I like it because it helps me relax after school and escape from everyday problems. And while I am knitting, some interesting ideas may come into my head...

Ust-Pristan: We really have here muah to do... I think the centre of all talents of my village is our House of Culture. Here you can learn singing, dancing, reciting poems, drama and take part in different concerts and shows. I (Kate) go to the dance club "Friends" .Wow, dancing is cool!!! It is a sport and art at the same time. When I am dancing, I forget everything - problems, bad mood and even homework (sometimes)... I am sure there is nothing like dances.

Ust-Pristan: Bad marks really spoil the mood. You don't smile, you don't want to talk, you don't want to see anybody. but then you realize that it's your fault, and that you just have to be prepared for each lesson. And then it turns out that bad marks may be very useful for you and for your results.

Ust-Pristan: You are absolutely right that school is more than just the lessons, but we can't agree that marks are not important in life. Good marks can help believe in yourself, bad marks can hurt you very much. When a person's talent is not propely estimated he can fall into depression and lose his belief in justice. It may happen even at school. It is very important to get right marks, though there are many things that are more important - family, frienship, hobbies...Have you ever got wrong marks? Or do you always agree with what you get?

Asterisk: Our school is lyceum, it is one of best school in our town I like my class because I always feel at home with my classmates. It is easy to get along with them. I am sure I will always remember my school years and the frindships I have made at school for the rest of my life. Of course, school is the main and the most important part of our life at present, and whether you like it or not, you spend most of your time there. As for me, school is not only the place where I meet and communicate with my friends evere day, and this communication is very precious to me, as I can not imagine my life without my friends, too. And on the whole, school does not only give us useful and valuable knowledge, that we can use in future life but also it educates us and teaches us how to live. P.S. It was a serious story, but.....sometimes this place ( school we mean) is rather crazy :) because we are too noisy during the breaks (especially Primary School). On PE lessons girls are frozen and boys are very hot On Chemistry we learn to mix different elements ( sometimes we make a big "BOOM" On Handicraft lessons girls make tasty cakes and try to poison favorite teachers Boys try to calm down metal-removing tools or machines On English lessons we fight with little bothering flies (you know they flies around the flowers) which wants to conqure our classrom (they are winning now) The only place we like is a checkroom (or cloak-room)...because it gives us freedom!!!! But in spite of all these difficulties we are happy at school as WE ARE DIFFERENT, BUT WE ARE ALWAYS TOGETHER:))) 5 elements

СCHESSTER: Everybody knows that school plays a great role in our life. First we wanted to write a serious story, but after some debates came to conclusion that our story must be easy and funny. May be we are wrong... but everybody in this forum wrote a serious story...it seems to be boring.... So we are going to tell you about Gimnasia № 9 named after K. Tsiolkovsky in Kaluga.. There is an English saying: “My house is my castle”. We think it is true for our school. On the one hand our school is a very old building which looks like a real castle. It has thick walls, a lot of rooms with high ceilings and big windows. It seems to us that our school is like a fortress for us. On the other hand our school is like our home. We think so because we have a lot of friends there, most of our teachers are kind and friendly. They help us when we are in need. They teach us not only their subjects, but how to be good people. In 2004 our grammar school became the winner of regional competition «Best schools of the Kaluga region» Grammar school №9 — one of the oldest educational institutions of Kaluga and the Kaluga region. Within nineteen years the great Russian scientist, the founder of theoretical astronautics taught physics and astronomy in it. It is the well-known iron ladder on which already more than 100 years pupils rise to heights of knowledge. We are proud that Konstantin Eduardovich Tsiolkovsky went along corridors of our grammar school and taught physics and mathematics in it. To be continued P.S. My school is my castle. Hmm…we don’t think so. It is more than a castle, it is the second house, a castle and a big part of my life. School isn’t only education, it is an interesting mini world. We spend here a lot of time, and this time is very interesting and important for us. Our moto is "Fall down and get up!"

Ust-Pristan: Dear CCHESSTER! We like your descripton very much, your school seems to be like a palace or a museum... But we can't agree with your motto - is it neccessary to fall down?

СCHESSTER: Hmm...girls, sometimes it happens on our stairs and it is rather dangerous, the main stairs are made of iron and the others -of marble, the surface of which is not very plain. If to be serious, we think that it is more important to get up or...how to put it in English....to be restored, may be, after your failure. It is better than not to fall at all, not to do mistakes, we mean. Don't you agree?

You know it is difficult to do something new in the same contest for the third time Would you lik e to change your old building for a new - supermodern? It is difficult to say...From the one hand our building is historical, and we are proud of studing here. From the other hand we have no swimming pool, no modern workshops for boys. Our canteen is rather small and so on. Of course we have all the neccesary modern eqiupment for our education, that is computers, Internet, ineractive board ....but . We would like to remain the spirite of old school where Tsiolkovsky worked and to have all modern convienences For sure you have a museum of K.Tsiolkovsky in your school. What are the most interesting exhibits in your museum ? Yes, sure we have sush museum and every year many delegations from the other countries, not only other cities come to visit it. As for interesting exhibits...we have a real table of Konstantin Aduardovich, his telescope, some personal things and, of course, his books. Ust-Pristan: Dear Yelena Viktorovna! We like our school and we get used to it, but certainly there are some things we would like to change. Well, the worst thing about our school(but don't tell our teachers, they will be angry ) is that our first lesson starts at 8a.m. In other schools of our region lessons start later - at 8.30 or even at 9a.m. And we envy them very much!. Becides, there is no buffet here, only the canteen, and sometimes we would like to have a snack instead of porridge...

Ust-Pristan: Oh, breaks are like " a ray of light in the darkness", sometimes they can be even more important than lessons... During the breaks we prepare for the next lessons(very rarely), share the most important news(if we can't do it at the lesson),tell each other funny stories and watch how our classmates play jokes on each other

Ust-Pristan: Dear CCHESSTER! We have different breaks. The first and the last last 10 minutes, and the rest - 15 minutes, because different classes have lunch in the school canteen. For us it's the third break, that is the most pleasant, especially when we feel the smell of pies... By the way, what's the most popular food in your school canteen? Do you often have porridge? Do you have an orchard in your school?

СCHESSTER: Dear girls! (UST-PRISTAN) Our favorite food is hot sandwiges. They are great!!! Wew have porridge very often Our breaks are too long-20 minutes each break! It is too long, believe us! We would like to have shorter breaks and get home earlier. And what about your P.E. lessons? Do you like it? Do you think it is good to have it 3 times a week?

Marina-M: Dear Elena Victorovna, We are so glad our lyceum 5 Perm to have some changes, because "everything flows and everything changes". As for our lyceum we'd like to have more modern equipment for our education such as computers and smart-boards with their posibilities but not that we are having now, we need new technology which will help us to understsnd the material we learn not only on paper or on the blackboards but in its immidiate process. "Theory is nothing without practice". You see your contest is a fantastic provement of it. What is more, we'd like to control our knowledge not only at school together with our great teachers who try to give us everything they know but showing ourselves to college or universitie taechers who catch the tendences of modern international education better due to the fact that they meet with their collegues from different higher educational esteblishments from our country and abroad. We should understand if we are taught in a right way or not. The third point that should be changed is the attitude of many our parents to school and our leaning. They sometimes think that we don't do anything during some lessons, that we are so independent and old enough that we don't need in the help of our parents. DashaDmitrieva: Dear Ust-Pristan, It was so interesting for me to read contents and a plan of your future presentation about your school. I'm sure you love your school. I liked the idea of your presentation and everything you want to show - you have got a title, the aim, the form of your work (PowerPoint), its advantages. Besades, you want to tell readers about your former students (I think, they were the pride of your school, weren't they?) But I'm afraid that not everybody in your school know or knew (in the past) Englisg well, so I believe that a lot of them have no opportunity to understand your information in English. That's why my advice to you is make your presentation in two languages - in English and in Russian (for those, who don't know English perfectly like you).
